Shotguns for clay target, field and utility work, from Beretta, Miroku, Browning, Fabarm, Bettinsoli, Webley & Scott, Benelli and Stoeger. Over-unders, side-by-sides, semi-autos and pumps in 12, 20, 28 gauge and .410.

Choosing between them usually comes down to the discipline. Trap and skeet shooters want a heavier over-under with longer barrels and adjustable comb to hold the swing. Sporting clays reward a versatile 30" over-under with a good choke set. For ducks, quail and rabbit work in the field, weight and balance matter more than barrel length, and a semi-auto takes the sting out of a long day. Multi-chokes are standard on most models and let one gun cover several jobs.

All shotguns require a current licence and Permit to Acquire, and are transferred through a licensed dealer. We ship to your nominated dealer anywhere in Australia. Fitting advice, choke selection and stock dimensions are worth a phone call before you commit.

      Buying Shotguns in Australia

Magnum Sports carries more than 330 shotguns with around 150 available today: over-and-unders and side-by-sides for clay target and field shooting, lever actions and straight-pulls for pest control, semi-automatics and pump actions for primary producers, and a strong pre-owned and consignment range. Beretta is our largest range (Silver Pigeon, 686, 694, DT11 and the 1301 competition semi-auto), alongside Benelli, Miroku, Blaser, Rizzini, Chapuis, Bettinsoli, Webley & Scott, Adler, Akkar, Pardus, Boito, Mossberg and Remington.

Most of our range is 12 gauge, with 20 gauge, 28 gauge and .410 for younger and lighter-framed shooters and for rabbits and small pests. In NSW a break-action, bolt-action or single-shot shotgun is Category A; a lever-action shotgun holding five rounds or fewer is Category B; pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns are Category C and limited to primary producers. Every shotgun needs a Permit to Acquire and compliant safe storage.

A reliable field over-and-under starts around $1,000, a Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon or Miroku MK38 for clay target competition is $2,500 to $6,000, and best-grade sporting and game guns run to $125,000. Bring your shoulder and your shooting glasses: gun fit matters more with a shotgun than any other firearm, and we fit in store.

      Common questions

What licence category is a shotgun in NSW?
Break-action (over-and-under and side-by-side), bolt-action and single-shot shotguns are Category A. Lever-action shotguns with a magazine capacity of five rounds or fewer are Category B; more than five is Category D. Pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns are Category C (up to five rounds) and are restricted to primary producers and other approved genuine reasons.
What is the best shotgun for clay target shooting for a beginner?
A 12 gauge over-and-under with 28 to 30 inch barrels and interchangeable chokes. The Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon I, Miroku MK38 and Rizzini BR110 are the standard club recommendations at $2,500 to $4,500 because they fit most shooters, hold their value and are easy to service. A pre-owned example from our consignment range can save $500 to $1,500.
How much does a shotgun cost in Australia?
At Magnum Sports a pre-owned single-barrel starts around $195, new field over-and-unders from Akkar, Pardus, Boito and Bettinsoli are $700 to $2,000, Beretta and Miroku competition guns $2,500 to $8,000, and Blaser, Chapuis and best-grade Berettas from $8,000 to $125,000.
      Can I buy a pump-action or semi-automatic shotgun?
Only with a Category C or D licence, which in NSW is generally limited to primary producers and approved occupational shooters. Recreational hunters and clay target shooters use Category A break-action shotguns or Category B lever-actions holding five rounds or fewer, such as the Adler A110 and Chiappa 1887.
Is a .410 or 20 gauge shotgun good for a junior or a smaller shooter?
A 20 gauge is usually the better choice: lighter recoil than a 12 with enough pattern for clays and rabbits. A .410 is very light-recoiling but has a small pattern that makes hitting moving targets harder; it suits rabbits and close pest work. We stock both and can fit a shorter stock for junior shooters.
