Pistols and revolvers for licensed Category H shooters competing in IPSC, service pistol, metallic silhouette and club target disciplines. Brands include Beretta, CZ, Glock, Walther, Canik, Smith & Wesson, Stoeger and Lone Wolf.

The right choice depends on the discipline. IPSC and practical shooters generally want a high-capacity 9mm with a good trigger and optics-ready slide. Service pistol favours reliability and a consistent trigger over gadgetry. Metallic silhouette and slow-fire target work reward a longer barrel and adjustable sights. Rimfire pistols in .22LR remain the cheapest way to build trigger time.

Category H purchases are tightly controlled. You will need a current Category H licence, club membership and participation records where your state requires them, and a Permit to Acquire before transfer. Everything moves dealer to dealer. If you are working through your probationary period or unsure what your club endorsement allows, call us before you order.

Handguns are Category H in NSW. You need a current Category H licence with a club endorsement and a Permit to Acquire for each handgun; since 1 July 2026 the permit is only issued once you show you meet the safe-storage requirements. NSW handguns must have a barrel of at least 120 mm for semi-automatics or 100 mm for revolvers, a magazine capacity of no more than 10 rounds, and a calibre of .38 or less unless you hold an approval for a discipline that allows up to .45. New licence holders are on a probationary period that limits what they can acquire in the first year — ask us before ordering.

      Common questions

What licence do I need to buy a handgun in NSW?
A Category H licence issued for sport or target shooting, which requires membership of an approved pistol club, plus a Permit to Acquire for each handgun. Since 1 July 2026 the permit is only issued once you show you meet the safe-storage requirements, and licences run for a maximum of two years.
What handguns are legal in NSW?
For sport and target shooting a handgun must have a barrel of at least 120 mm (semi-automatic) or 100 mm (revolver), a magazine of no more than 10 rounds and a calibre of .38 or less; calibres up to .45 are allowed only with an approval for an accredited discipline such as metallic silhouette or single action. Most models on this page are sold in NSW-compliant form.
Can a new Category H licence holder buy any pistol?
No. New licence holders serve a probationary period that restricts the type and number of handguns they can acquire in the first year. Tell us where you are in your probation and we will confirm what you can order.
How much does a competition pistol cost?
At Magnum Sports rimfire target pistols start at about $800, most centrefire competition pistols from Beretta, CZ, Canik, Walther and Shadow Systems cost $1,300 to $2,500, and premium match pistols from Laugo Arms, Korth and Manurhin run $5,000 to $15,000.
      Do you transfer handguns interstate?
Yes. Order online with your licence and PTA details and we send the handgun dealer to dealer to your nominated licensed dealer; handgun transfer freight is $30 ($65 to WA). Handgun ammunition is collected in store only and is never shipped.
