The Merkel 96K is Merkel's core drilling – an all-rounder that pairs two 12 gauge shotgun barrels with a 9.3x74R rifle barrel. The rifle barrel is cocked by hand with the slide on the stock tang, so the gun is carried safely de-cocked until a rifle shot is needed.
The front trigger carries a set trigger for precise rifle shots, and the gun is prepared for the Suhl swing mount so a scope can be fitted and removed with repeatable zero. This example features arabesque engraving.

- Combined safety/cocking slide on the stock tang selects the rifle barrel
