For walking rabbits and foxes, the lighter sporter-barrel American, Beechwood and Lux carry best; the Lux and Trainer come with open sights. For bench, target and long strings of fire, the heavy-barrel Varmint and Varmint Thumbhole hold steadier. Choose .22 LR for cheap practice and close work, and .17 HMR or .22 WMR for flatter shooting past 100 metres.
