      Buying 9mm Pistols in Australia

Magnum Sports lists about 190 pistols chambered in 9mm Luger (9x19), with around 45 available to buy today from Beretta, CZ, Walther, Canik, Shadow Systems, Heckler & Koch, SIG Sauer, Springfield Armory, Laugo Arms, Chiappa, Tanfoglio, Stoeger, Lone Wolf and Smith & Wesson, plus Glock models on order. 9mm is the calibre of IPSC, Service Pistol and most club competition in Australia: cheap ammunition, mild recoil and 10-round magazines.

All 9mm pistols are Category H in NSW and need a pistol licence obtained through an approved pistol club. Sport and target handguns in NSW must be .38 calibre or smaller (9mm qualifies), a semi-automatic must have a barrel of at least 120 mm and a magazine holding no more than 10 rounds. New probationary pistol licence holders may only acquire air pistols and .22 rimfire pistols in their first six months. Every firearm purchase in NSW needs a current licence in the right category and a Permit to Acquire (PTA) for that firearm; since 1 July 2026 a PTA is only issued once you show you meet the safe-storage requirements, and licences now run for a maximum of two years. Interstate buyers order online and we transfer dealer to dealer to your nominated licensed dealer for $30. Ammunition is sold for collection in store only and is never shipped.

Entry polymer-frame 9mm pistols start at about $800, most club and competition pistols sit between $1,200 and $2,600, and steel-frame competition and race guns from CZ, Walther, Tanfoglio, Laugo Arms and SIG run from $3,500 to $15,000.
