About Kahles

Karl Robert Kahles merged two Viennese optical workshops in 1898, and Kahles has been making riflescopes ever since — the oldest riflescope company in continuous operation, still in Austria, at Guntramsdorf just outside Vienna. A subsidiary of Swarovski Optik since 1989, it has stayed a specialist rather than becoming a product line inside someone else's catalogue.

The sport line is where most Australian competitors meet Kahles. K525i and K328i are the long-range standards, the K540i and K864 push magnification for benchrest and extreme distance, and the K18i and K16i cover the low-power end for practical and IPSC shooting. Two features get talked about more than the rest: TWISTGUARD, a patented freely rotating cap on the windage turret that stops accidental adjustment without a lock to remember, and the top-mounted parallax sitting under the elevation turret so everything is reachable with one hand without coming off the rifle.

The HELIA range is the hunting side — 1-5x24i through to 3.5-18x50i, with illuminated reticles built around low light rather than magnification, plus the HELIA 42 RF rangefinding binocular.

We stock Kahles because the mechanics are as good as anything made and the ergonomics are better than most — the turret layout genuinely matters once you are working a stage under time. The SKMR reticle family is well supported in ballistic solvers, warranty runs five years plus five years of goodwill service on the optics and two years on the illumination, and Oceania service is handled in Sydney rather than overseas.
