Pre-Owned Firearms

Buying Pre-Owned Firearms in Australia

Magnum Sports carries around 125 pre-owned rifles, shotguns and handguns at Roseville Chase, most of them consignment firearms from local shooters plus store trade-ins. Every used firearm is inspected and function-checked by our staff before it goes on the shelf, and the listing shows the condition and any included extras such as scopes, mounts and cases.

The same NSW rules apply as for a new firearm: you need a licence in the right category (A for rimfire, air rifles and most shotguns, B for centrefire rifles and lever-action shotguns of five rounds or fewer, H for handguns) and a Permit to Acquire; since 1 July 2026 the permit is only issued once you show you meet the safe-storage requirements. We transfer pre-owned firearms dealer to dealer to interstate buyers.

Pre-owned firearms start at about $150 for single-shot and older sporting guns, most sit between $400 and $1,500, and premium second-hand shotguns, precision rifles and handguns run up to about $3,000. Stock turns over weekly, so check back or ask us to watch for a model.

Second-hand rifles, shotguns, handguns and optics, each inspected in store before it goes on the shelf. Stock turns over constantly, so it is worth checking back or calling if you are after something specific.

Buying used is the cheapest way into a quality European or Japanese gun. A well-kept Sako, Tikka, Miroku or Beretta will outlast a new budget rifle and holds its value far better, and a barrel with plenty of life left is usually the difference between a bargain and a project. Pre-owned is also the sensible route for a first centrefire while you work out what you actually want.

Every pre-owned firearm is transferred through a licensed dealer and requires a current licence and Permit to Acquire, the same as a new gun. If you want more photos or a straight assessment of condition before you commit, call the store and we will look at it with you on the phone.

      Common questions

Do I need a licence to buy a second-hand gun in NSW?
Yes. A used firearm needs exactly the same paperwork as a new one: a current licence in the right category and a Permit to Acquire; since 1 July 2026 the permit is only issued once you show you meet the safe-storage requirements. The transfer is completed through our dealer licence.
Are used firearms checked before sale?
Every pre-owned firearm at Magnum Sports is inspected and function-checked by our staff, with the bore, action and safety checked and any faults noted in the listing. Consignment firearms are held in our safes until sold.
Can I sell my firearm through Magnum Sports?
Yes. We sell on consignment and buy outright for trade-in. Bring the firearm and your licence to the store for a valuation; consignment fees are listed on our services page and the firearm stays in our secure storage until it sells.
How much do pre-owned firearms cost?
Older single-shot and sporting guns start at about $150, most used rifles and shotguns are between $400 and $1,500, and premium second-hand shotguns, precision rifles and handguns go up to about $3,000.
Will you ship a used firearm interstate?
Yes, dealer to dealer to a licensed dealer near you, once your Permit to Acquire is issued. Longarm transfer freight is $65 and handgun transfer $30 ($85 and $65 to WA).
