Our rifle range covers everything from a first .22LR through to purpose-built long-range and dangerous-game rigs. Bolt actions from Tikka, Sako, Bergara, Howa, Savage, Ruger, Lithgow, Mauser, Sauer and Blaser sit alongside lever actions, straight-pulls and rimfire trainers, in the calibres Australian shooters actually use.

Not sure where to start? For rabbits and foxes at close range a .22LR or .17 HMR does the job cheaply. For foxes and goats out to a few hundred metres, .223 Rem and .22-250 are the standards. For deer and pigs, .308 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm-08 and .270 Win all work well and are easy to feed. For target work, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6mm Creedmoor and 6.5x47 Lapua dominate the line.

Every rifle sold here goes through a licensed dealer. You will need a current firearms licence in the right category and a Permit to Acquire from your state registry before we can hand it over. Interstate orders ship to your nominated local dealer for collection. If you are unsure what your licence covers or which calibre suits your genuine reason, call the Roseville store and talk it through with someone who shoots.

      Buying Rifles in Australia

Magnum Sports lists more than 1,400 rifles and can order most of them today, with over 500 available to buy right now from Tikka, Sako, Savage, Ruger, Lithgow Arms, Bergara, Sauer, CZ, Howa, Anschutz, Cadex, Henry, Chiappa, Uberti and FX Airguns. In NSW rimfire rifles and air rifles are Category A; centrefire bolt-action, lever-action and straight-pull rifles are Category B. Every firearm purchase in NSW needs a current licence in the right category and a Permit to Acquire (PTA) for that firearm; since 1 July 2026 a PTA is only issued once you show you meet the safe-storage requirements, and licences now run for a maximum of two years. Interstate buyers order online and we transfer dealer to dealer to your nominated licensed dealer.

      Common questions

What licence do I need to buy a rifle in NSW?
A Category A licence covers rimfire rifles and air rifles; a Category B licence is required for centrefire rifles, including bolt-action, lever-action and straight-pull centrefires. You also need a Permit to Acquire for each rifle, and since 1 July 2026 the permit is only issued once you show you meet the safe-storage requirements.
Can you ship a rifle interstate?
Yes. Order online with your licence and PTA details and we transfer the rifle dealer to dealer to a licensed dealer near you. Longarm transfer freight is $65 ($85 to WA). Ammunition cannot be shipped and is collected in store only.
How much does a hunting rifle cost in Australia?
At Magnum Sports rimfire rifles start at about $400, most centrefire hunting rifles from Tikka, Savage, Ruger, Howa, Bergara and Sako sit between $1,200 and $3,500, and precision or custom rifles from Sako, Cadex and Victrix run from $5,000 to more than $20,000.
Which rifle brands do you stock?
Tikka, Sako, Savage, Ruger, Lithgow Arms, Bergara, Sauer, Blaser, CZ, Howa, Anschutz, Cadex, Henry, Marlin, Chiappa, Uberti, Winchester, Browning, Weatherby and FX Airguns, among others. If a model is not on the shelf we can usually order it from the Australian distributor.
Are straight-pull rifles still Category B in NSW?
Yes at present: centrefire straight-pull rifles are Category B and rimfire straight-pulls Category A. The NSW Parliament has passed a change to move straight-pull and some pump-action rifles to Category C, but it has not commenced and starts on a date still to be proclaimed. We will update this page when a date is set.
