Buying .410 Bore Ammunition in Australia

Magnum Sports lists 57 .410 bore loads, and 21 can be ordered today. Fiocchi, Trust, Remington, Federal and Eley make up most of the range, with Winchester, Clever and Hornady also listed. The .410 is the smallest common shotgun bore, used in Australia for rabbits and small game at close range, for pest control around sheds and yards, and in light-recoil clay events.

A NSW dealer can only sell .410 ammunition to a person holding a licence or permit for a firearm of that calibre, and Magnum Sports sights it at the counter. Single-barrel and double-barrel .410 shotguns are Category A. All ammunition is collection only from the Roseville Chase store and is never posted or couriered; you can order online to have it put aside.

Prices start at about $20 for a pack of Federal rifled slugs and $28 for Fiocchi 3-inch 7.5 shot. Typical game and target loads run $36–$59 a box, buckshot and solid loads $49–$63, and a 25-box case of Winchester AA Target is $215.

For rabbits and small game, Federal Gameshok or Remington Express XLR in 4 or 6 shot give the most reach from a 3-inch chamber. For quiet pest work around buildings, the Fiocchi Silent loads in 8 and 9 shot are the obvious choice. Clay shooters can use Remington Nitro Sporting Clay or Winchester AA Target, and the Fiocchi solid or Federal slug suits close-range larger targets.
