Buying .300 PRC Rifles in Australia

Magnum Sports lists 42 rifles in .300 PRC, and 31 of them can be ordered today. Bergara has the most models, followed by Barrett, Savage, Browning, Weatherby and Springfield Armory, with Hardy, Cadex, Ruger, Gunwerks, Benelli, CVA and Aero Precision also represented. The .300 PRC is Hornady's long-action .30 calibre magnum, designed to fire heavy, high-BC bullets. Australian shooters use it for long-range hunting of large deer and for long-range and extreme long-range target shooting.

Every rifle in this collection is a centrefire bolt action, which is Category B in NSW. You will need a current Category B licence and a Permit to Acquire (PTA) for each rifle. Since 1 July 2026 a PTA is only issued once the applicant shows they meet the safe-storage requirements, and new and renewed licences run for a maximum of two years.

The lowest-priced in-stock rifle is the CVA Cascade at $1,252, followed by the Browning X-Bolt Stalker LR at $1,652 and Bergara Wilderness Sierra at $1,995. The median rifle here costs about $4,370, around the Savage 110 Elite Precision and Springfield 2020 Waypoint. At the top end, Barrett MRAD SMR rifles ($10,750) and the Gunwerks Magnus WRX ($10,949) are in stock, and the full Barrett MRAD is $15,552 to order.

For a long-range hunting rifle that is still carryable, the Bergara Wilderness Sierra Carbon, Springfield 2020 Boundary Carbon, Weatherby MKV High Country and Hardy Project X are good starting points; the Browning X-Bolt Stalker LR and CVA Cascade cover tighter budgets. For heavier target and ELR work, look at the Savage 110 Elite Precision, Savage Impulse Elite Precision, Cadex CDX-R7 or Barrett MRAD SMR, which suit a bipod and a high-magnification scope. Ammunition is collection only from the store.
