All .30-06 rifles are centrefire and Category B in NSW, whether bolt-action, lever-action or straight-pull. Every firearm purchase in NSW needs a current licence in the right category and a Permit to Acquire (PTA) for that firearm; since 1 July 2026 a PTA is only issued once you show you meet the safe-storage requirements, and licences now run for a maximum of two years. Interstate buyers order online and we transfer dealer to dealer to your nominated licensed dealer (longarm freight $65, $85 to WA; handguns $30). Ammunition is sold for collection in store only and is never shipped.

A 22 inch barrel is all the .30-06 needs, so lightweight carbines such as the Tikka T3x Lite, Sako 90 Finnlight, Winchester M70 Featherweight and Savage 110 Ultralite make excellent mountain and walked-up rifles. Choose 150 grain loads for fallow and goats, 165–180 grain for red deer and sambar. We fit and bore-sight scopes, and .30-06 ammunition from Hornady, Federal, Sako, Norma, Winchester and Remington is stocked for collection in store.

      What licence do I need for a .30-06 rifle in NSW?
