Buying .22 Air Pellets in Australia

Magnum Sports lists 54 lines of .22 (5.5 mm) air rifle pellets and slugs, and 42 are available today. The range covers RWS, Gamo, JSB, H&N, Norma, Predator, FX Airguns, Crosman, Norica, Diana and Stoeger, from round-nose plinking pellets to heavy domes and slugs for PCP rifles. The .22 is the usual hunting calibre for air rifles in Australia, chosen for rabbits and small pests at close range, and it is also used in field target competition.

Air rifles are Category A in NSW, and a NSW dealer may only sell pellets to a person who holds a licence or permit for a firearm of that calibre, so we sight your licence at the counter. All pellets and slugs are collection only from our Roseville Chase store and are never posted or couriered. You can order online and we will put your tins aside for pick-up.

Pellet tins start at $8 for Norica Pointed Pellets, the typical tin costs about $22, and premium heavy pellets and slugs such as Predator Metalmag reach $53.

Spring-piston rifles generally shoot best with mid-weight domes such as RWS Super Dome, H&N Field Target Trophy or Gamo ProMagnum. Higher-powered PCP rifles suit heavier JSB Jumbo Exact Heavy, FX Premium Heavy, Norma Golden Trophy FT Heavy or slugs like the JSB Knockout MK2 and Norica Premium Slug. For cheap practice, Gamo Accutek Match and Norica pellets keep costs down. Try two or three tins in your rifle before buying in bulk, because accuracy varies from barrel to barrel.

      Common questions

Do I need a licence to buy air rifle pellets in NSW?
Yes. Pellets can only be sold to a person with a licence or permit for a firearm of that calibre, and we sight it at the counter. Air rifles themselves are Category A.
Can you post .22 pellets to me?
No. All ammunition, including air pellets, is collection only from the Roseville Chase store. Order online and we will hold it for you.
What .22 pellets are best for rabbits?
Heavier domes or hollow points such as JSB Jumbo Exact, RWS Super Field or H&N Baracuda Match are common choices. The best pellet is the one your rifle groups most tightly.
How much do .22 pellets cost?
From $8 a tin for Norica Pointed Pellets to $53 for Predator Metalmag, with most tins around $22.
