.177 Air Pellets

Buying .177 Air Pellets in Australia

Magnum Sports lists 87 lines of .177 (4.5 mm) air rifle pellets, and 65 of them are available today. RWS makes up the bulk of the range with around 40 lines, backed by JSB Match Diabolo, Gamo, H&N, Norma, Eley, Predator, Norica and Crosman. The .177 is the standard calibre for 10 metre air rifle and air pistol target shooting and is also widely used for field target, backyard plinking and close-range pest control on small vermin.

In NSW air rifles are Category A firearms and air pistols are Category H, so pellets are treated like any other ammunition. A NSW dealer may only sell ammunition to a person holding a licence or permit for a firearm of that calibre, and Magnum Sports sights the licence at the counter. Pellets are collection only from the store at Roseville Chase and are never posted or couriered; you can order online and have them put aside.

Everyday plinking and training tins start at about $8 to $15, the typical tin sits around $23, and competition match pellets such as Eley Tenex Air run to $57. Most lines also come in larger multi-tin quantities.

RWS Hobby, Gamo and Norica tins are inexpensive options for plinking and practice.
