12 Gauge Ammunition

Magnum Sports lists about 330 12 gauge loads, with roughly 110 available to order today. Winchester, Fiocchi, Federal, Eley, Trust, RC, Remington and Clever carry most of the range, with Norma, Hornady, SAGA, B&P and Sellier & Bellot alongside. 12 gauge is the most widely used shotgun gauge in Australia, covering trap, skeet and sporting clays, game birds and waterfowl (including steel loads where lead is not permitted), rabbits and foxes, and slugs and buckshot for pigs at close range.

To buy 12 gauge shells you need a licence or permit for a firearm of that calibre, which Magnum Sports sights at the counter. All ammunition is collected from the Roseville Chase store only and is never posted or couriered, but you can order online to have it put aside. For the shotgun itself, single and double barrel guns are Category A, lever-action shotguns holding 5 rounds or fewer are Category B, and pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns are Category C, restricted to primary producers and limited exemptions.

In-stock loads start at $15 for a five-round packet of rifled slugs. Most boxed target and field loads sit between $20 and $40, premium steel such as Federal Black Cloud is $82–$83 a box, and bulk slab and case listings run into the hundreds, up to $493.
