The 200 grain #2231 uses a long 27-calibre ogive, a closed and pointed meplat and a 1.5 degree bearing-surface-to-ogive junction that matches common match chamber throats, which is where its 0.715 G1 figure comes from.

MatchKing jackets are drawn thin and held to very tight concentricity, with a small hollow point meplat that keeps weight and balance consistent from bullet to bullet. The closed-nose (CN) versions get a final pointing operation that closes the meplat for a higher ballistic coefficient than the standard open tip. Sierra specifies a barrel twist of 1:9 in or faster for this bullet. They are a target design: Sierra does not recommend MatchKings for most hunting, and on varmints they will not open as reliably as the lighter-jacketed VarmintKing and BlitzKing bullets. Sierra introduced this bullet in 2018.

Specifications

Brand: Sierra Bullets

Sierra product number: 2231

Product line: MatchKing

Bullet type: Hollow Point Boat Tail - Closed Nose (HPBT-CN)

Diameter: 0.308 in

Weight: 200 grains

G1 ballistic coefficient: 0.715

G7 ballistic coefficient: 0.354

Material: Jacketed lead core

Minimum twist: 1:9 in or faster

Box quantity: 100
